DETAILS
Each year the Youth Services Department at the Elk Grove Library asks me to create web and print documents for its annual summer reading program. The theme for the year 2013 was "Dig into Reading," and the Youth Department specifically came to me for a t-shirt design. I used the theme as a springboard for inspiration and sketched several different t-shirt designs, ranging from an Indiana Jones-inspired costume design to a simple graphic/text layout.
After several meetings with staff from the Youth Department, we decided on going with an ancient Egyptian theme to the theme. It was a welcomed surprised because I have a passion for and specialize in the subject. I then worked on a final draft of the t-shirt design, rendered in Adobe Illustrator. The figures and hieroglyphs, which do indeed read "Dig into Reading" in ancient Egyptian, are all hand drawn. After several iterations of the design, based on library staff feedback, I submitted the design to a local t-shirt printing company.
